Are You Guilty of These Single Dog Lover Habits?

There are certain habits that single dog lovers have that other people who don’t have a pet sometimes find difficult to understand. If you own a canine, chances are you are guilty of some of the following habits:

  • Talking to your dog as if they are a real person—more specifically a child—in a high pitched or “baby voice” that often includes asking them questions like, “What’s that?” as if they will start magically responding. You know they won’t, but since you see them as more than just a furry, four-legged animal, you can’t help but talk to them as if they are also a family member.
  • Treating your pet as if they are a person—which includes occasionally doing things other non-single dog lovers or owners find gross, like letting them sleep in your bed with you, or letting them take a bite or two off your plate.
  • Leaving dropped food on the ground for them to eat. One of the benefits to owning a dog is that they can act as an additional vacuum and cleaning service by cleaning up the scrap bits of food you’ve accidentally dropped. They get a treat, and you don’t have to pull out the broom!
  • Making them pose for photo shoots. Whether they have done something especially cute, or you are just in the mood to show everyone on social media how cute Fido is, chances are if you own a canine, you currently have more pictures of them flooding your phone’s photo archive than you’d like to admit.
  • Arranging your social life around them. Single dog lovers spend a lot of their free time with their pups. Between having to be home at certain times to let them out to making sure they are fed and getting enough exercise, being a dog owner is a full-time job. And if you spend most of the week at the office, your weekend is probably your time to bond with your pup and get him out of the house. If you are invited to have lunch with a friend, you’re much more inclined to go if it is a pet-friendly place, or to invite friends over only if they are okay with having your pooch around and not locked in the other room.
